Methods of preventing cracks in steel castings
Cracks are divided into hot cracks and cold cracks. Hot cracks are mainly caused by S, mostly irregular shapes, and the metal skin at the cracks is oxidized; cold cracks are mainly caused by P, the cracks are relatively straight, the cracks have metallic luster, and sometimes a slight oxidation color appears. Some steel castings use water blasting and sand cleaning process, which can also cause cracks.
Preventive measures for cracks:
(1) Improve the concession of sand mold and sand core.
(2) Strictly control the content of S and P in the charge and molten steel.
(3) The wall thickness of the casting should be as uniform as possible to avoid sudden changes in the wall thickness. When conditions permit, stiffeners can be appropriately set, and the intersection of the two sections is connected by rounded corners to reduce stress concentration.
(4) Adjust the cooling rate of each part of the casting to avoid local overheating of the casting, place cold iron at the thick and large section or hot joint, and properly disperse the inner runner, so that the temperature of each part of the casting tends to be uniform, and the pouring riser should hinder the shrinkage of the casting. .
(5) After the casting is poured, the opening should not be too early, and the casting using the water blasting and sand cleaning process should master the temperature and time.
